Tied To The World?

I once read a story that went something like this:
Once there were two men who, intoxicated, came one night to where their boat was tied. Wanting to return home, they got in and began to row. They rowed hard all night, wondering why they never got to the other side of the bay. When the gray dawn of day broke, they were amazed. They had never untied the boat from the dock or raised the anchor.

If you’re not making progress in your living for God, maybe it’s because you’re tied to this world. The world’s things and the world’s philosophy, if you allow it, it will destroy the work of God in your life.

Jesus said, “…the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.” Matt. 14:22
John said, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the lust of flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world.” 1 John 2:15
