Now brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
What the scriptures say here, is so far from what is commonly taught.
The scriptures say, concerning the rapture, to not be deceived by any means, for it has not come yet and will not come “until” – Now notice the order.
the falling away comes first;
the man of sin – commonly referred to as the Antichrist – will be revealed;
and then the coming of Jesus and our being gathered to Him.
This order of events is often not what is taught.
Also, this Antichrist will sit as God in the temple of God. Consider 1 Corinthians 3:16 & 2 Corinthians 6:16. The temple of God is no longer a building. This Antichrist finds his place in the church where he sits as God in the temple of God.
